Hendon Sunderland – Mosque / Community Centre Refurbishment & Extension
Project Scope:
Extend an existing Victorian terraced house used as a mosque to accommodate more worshippers.
Construct a Double Storey Rear and Single Storey Rear-Side Extension.
Erect a Minaret at the front corner as a symbolic identity for the local Muslim community.
Maintain the architectural character while integrating modern elements like white render and curtain glazing to enhance natural light and reduce energy consumption.

RIBA Stages 0-3: Define Design Brief, Concept Designs, Pre-Planning, and Full Planning Application.
Designed a scheme that preserved the building’s original character while ensuring it met the client’s spatial and aesthetic needs.
Addressed planning concerns by preparing detailed reports, including Phase One Desktop Survey, Bat Survey, and Coal Mining Report.
Outcome:
Successfully obtained Conditional Planning Permission after a year-long approval process.
The client, mosque committee, and local community were satisfied with the final planning decision.
